FISITA Travel Bursary available to support essential costs on valuable student work placements

FISITA, the international organisation for the automotive engineering profession, is offering Travel Bursaries of up to EUR 2,000 to engineering students looking to work or study abroad.

The funding helps with the costs of taking part in organised work placements (internships, exchange programmes and work placements) in automotive companies and research institutions overseas. The initiative was first launched in 2006 and since then FISITA has awarded almost EUR 250,000 to students from 35 countries. Judged by members of the FISITA Education Committee, bursaries have previously supported overseas work placements at companies such as BMW, Ford and General Motors as well as research placements at leading engineering departments in Berkeley, Cambridge and Berlin.

Raul Chacon , a student at the university of Rhode Island, and a recipient of the FISITA Travel Bursary in 2015, said: “I would like to whole-heartedly thank FISITA Travel Bursary for awarding me their generous scholarship. Living alone in a foreign country is a scary and difficult thing to do, and with the help of FISITA I was able to comfortably enjoy my time living in Barcelona and interning at SEAT.”

FISITA CEO Chris Mason said: “The Travel Bursary is a fundamental part of FISITA’s education work and a key engagement activity for our member societies and corporate members. Due to the high number of applications we receive for the bursary, we increased funding for the initiative by 50% last year, enabling us to help a greater number of students fulfil their aspirations and begin their careers in the automotive industry.”

Students that have already organised their placement, who are registered members of a FISITA member society and currently in full time higher education studying engineering, are eligible to apply. For placements during April to October, applications need to be submitted by 31 March, and for placements during November to April, by 31 October. Students can apply at:
