Applications open for ASDA Graduate recruitment programme

Graduate programme open for applications at one of the UK's largest retailers

Asda's search for the next generation of retail talent is underway as the retailer looks for graduates with personality and a passion for retail to join its successful graduate programme.

For the first time, the scheme will be split into three key areas: trading, retail and a rotation scheme, covering commercial functions including marketing, finance, supply chain and IT. The new-look programme gives graduates the opportunity to fast-track their career to senior management.

Retail Programme
Graduates develop the skills they need to become a store manager and the potential to run a business with an annual turnover of over £1 million. The scheme gives budding retailers the opportunity to become experts in areas central to the business, from logistics and in-store marketing, to finance and people management.

Trading Programme
The Trading Programme offers graduates the chance to take ownership of their own product line, manage their own team with a multimillion pound budget and deal with some of the biggest global brands in the business.

Rotational Programme
Graduates on the rotational scheme will receive the opportunity to progress quickly to senior management by spending time in several areas of the business and gaining broader experience.

Angela McShane, Head of Talent and Resourcing at Asda said: "It can be tough out there for graduates and with application deadlines fast approaching and competition for spaces at an all time high, young people looking to get a break in their chosen profession are under a huge amount of pressure.

“At Asda, the main quality we look for in our graduates is attitude – we can train for skill.  We want to hear from anyone with a real passion for retail who has the drive, energy and personality required to embark on a successful and rewarding career with us.

“The good news is that candidates have until the end of February to submit their applications. With our newly revamped scheme we're looking forward to training the next generation of leaders in this exciting industry."

Asda's Graduate Programme has been created to develop the retail skills of candidates, giving them the tools they need to realise their full potential. Since the scheme launched in 1995 it has continued to grow from strength to strength. Over 900 colleagues have passed through the programme with many now occupying senior roles within the business.

How to Apply
To apply candidates must have a minimum 2:2 classification degree and 300 UCAS points from three A-Levels or equivalent. The first step is to complete an online application, which includes a personality questionnaire, numerical and verbal reasoning tests. If successful, the candidate will go through to a video interview and finally onto an Asda Reality assessment centre. At this stage candidates are assessed on their key strengths over specific competencies with a focus on recruiting graduates with a drive to succeed in retail and a passion for the industry. We aim to get back to candidates within 48 hours with a decision on whether they have been successful in gaining a place on the scheme.
