British Sugar is the UK’s leading supplier to food and rink manufacturers in the UK and Europe and with around 4,000 growers supplying its four factories the business produces over 1 million tonnes of sugar. Beyond sugar production there is a surprisingly diverse business to be discovered.
Although sugar remains at the core of its operations, by using a highly integrated approach to manufacturing, they aim to transform all raw materials into sustainable products, from tomatoes to animal feed, electricity to bioethanol, making it a truly diverse and exciting business to work for.
Our products are represented in the leading brands of international food and drink manufacturers. The scale and nature of our operations mean that behind every product is the total assurance of food safety, product traceability, security of supply and a commitment to product innovation.
Using our Combined Heat & Power plants, we export enough electricity for 160,000 homes and use the combustion gases to grow around 140 million tomatoes, and we invested in the UK’s first Bioethanol plant, producing 70 million litres of renewable fuel.
You will find our sugar on supermarket shelves under the Silver Spoon brand, one of the UK’s leading food brands.
With such a fast moving industry the British Sugar graduate scheme is not an average scheme. Graduates can expect a high degree of challenges throughout their career with no two days ever the same.
From Engineers to Agriculturalists we rely on a wide range of professionals. Whilst we are extremely diverse, we retain a unique culture that is as friendly and supportive as a small company but with the excitement of a truly international business. It also means that every individual has a chance to make a highly visible impact.
The graduate programmes begin with a comprehensive induction to the business, the structure, the market and the business issues we face. This induction is followed by a series of core training modules to give graduates from all disciplines an insight into general business topics and general management skills. Throughout the scheme each graduate will be supported by their own personally assigned mentor. A wide variety of training courses are offered throughout the duration of the programme.
