TK Maxx (Greater London)
Merchandising & Buying Graduate Programme
Start our programme in our Head Office in either Watford or Düsseldorf in February, July or September 2014 and by 2016 you could be spending our money securing great deals with some of the biggest brands
The Merchandising & Buying Graduate Programme, like our Off-Price business model, is unique and unlike most other retailers graduate programmes. Our programme takes place in the two areas which are at the heart of making our concept work: Merchandising and Buying. Why so different? We source, plan and buy every day of the year and according to the market. To achieve this, we empower our people to make decisions and use every ounce of their flexibility and fresh-thinking to get the best deals.
With ambitious future growth plans, over 700 people in the broader TJX Buying organisation and over 16,000 vendors globally, it is essential that we identify and develop talented Associates to become successful buyers of the future. Spending time in our Merchandising function initially affords an understanding of the fundamentals of our business enabling Associates to be well equipped for future roles in both Merchandising and Buying. It is a structured career path with continuous training and progression opportunities. At TJX Europe we invest in our graduates, their development and careers. We offer a lot of support and provide our graduates with freedom to take risks and to challenge the status quo.
Our goal is to give you the best possible start. A three month comprehensive induction with your graduate peer group is the first step. Through a combination of classroom learning, workshops, store visits and team meetings, you will learn both the people skills and technical know-how to be able to make decisions about valuable inventory. Then with a buddy and a mentor coaching you, it’s time to put it all into practise. By week 12, you will be a fully accountable Allocation Analyst and over the subsequent 18 months, with our support and your development plan, you would work towards a promotion to Senior Allocation Analyst and then Assistant Merchandiser.
To be successful you must enjoy working with product, have the ability to build rapport quickly and establish effective working relationships with others to get the job done. We look for candidates who demonstrate the ability to think creatively, have strong analytical and numbers skills, are able to think strategically about the business, and work well in a fast paced and demanding environment. We will consider applications from all Bachelor’s degree disciplines.
Start dates are available in February, July and September 2014. We recruit on a rolling basis so we encourage you to complete your application as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. The programme will be based in our European Head Office in Watford and our Head Office in Dusseldorf, Germany. Candidates should have indefinite right to work in the UK and Germany at the time of application as we are unable to sponsor any visa applications.
TJX Europe is part of the TJX Companies, Inc. - the leading off-price apparel and home fashions retailer in the world with sales of nearly $26 billion (Fiscal year ending February 2, 2013). TJX Europe operates TK Maxx, HomeSense and an online retail business in the UK, with over 350 stores (as of July 2013) in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Poland.
What’s so different about Off-Price retail? It’s a lean business model without frills or fancy extras. It involves buying when we find something amazing – much like our customers do – all year round and as close to season as possible to get the best deal. No two deals are ever the same, and Buyers are in the market all the time with an open brief to buy anything – as long as it’ll wow customers. And as we pay our invoices quickly, collect product from vendors, and don’t return or cancel orders, they love doing business with us, which puts us in a great position to negotiate on price.
