This two-year programme is designed to give you the best possible start to your career at Lloyds Banking Group.
Retail is the face of Lloyds Banking Group, on the high street, on the phone and online. It also has a fundamental part to play in helping Britain prosper. Through Retail, we support 1 in 4 first home buyers, helping 15 million people save towards what's important to them, and provide banking accounts for 1 in 3 people. With 30 million customers in total, we are the UK's largest retail bank.
Customer-facing business areas
We have three of the best-known retail brands in the country: Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland. Between them, they provide expert banking services to customers all over England, Scotland, Wales and the Channel Islands, including 24-hour service and support, which we offer through our branch network and our telephone banking teams. We also have a Wealth business, which provides private-banking and wealth-management solutions to affluent, high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth customers.
Non-customer-facing business areas
These are the business areas that help us become the best bank for customers by looking after all elements of our offering and communications. They include Risk and Group Marketing and Brand, as well as Customer Products, which is where we design the offerings that best meet our customers' needs. They also include our digital teams, whose technological innovations help us to better serve our customers.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
This two-year programme is designed to give you the best possible start to your career at Lloyds Banking Group, and to help you develop into a future leader of the organisation. To this end, it offers you many opportunities to enhance your understanding of banking and of our customers' needs, to identify the areas of the business that best suit your skills, and to start building a network of contacts across the wider organisation. Retail is one of the most diverse areas of Lloyds Banking Group, so there will many different kinds of role for you to experience, particularly when it comes to team management. The Retail programme also offers you the opportunity to work at the coalface of the business at a time when it is undergoing one of the most significant and high-profile cultural changes in the UK.
You will be encouraged to take ownership of your personal development, which will come through a mixture of on-the-job training and formal learning opportunities, and through the support and guidance you receive from your line manager and colleagues. There will also be lots of special projects and community-based or charity-fundraising activities for you to get involved with, many of which could offer you leadership experience. Your line manager will be your principal guide for the journey. In addition, you will have a mentor, in the form of an ex-graduate, who can give you excellent practical advice on how to make the most of the programme.
Beyond the programme
The aim of the programme is to prepare you for senior leadership roles within both the Retail business and the wider Lloyds Banking Group. Within five years of completing it, you could be looking at taking on a role where you're leading large numbers of branches or wealth-management offices, managing £multi-million retail products, driving our digital or marketing strategies, or leading major change programmes. Ultimately, your career could take you anywhere across the organisation, from insurance to mid-market business banking, from managing large-scale operations to risk.
ABOUT THE PLACEMENTS
You will go through a number of placements over the course of the two-year programme, which will be designed to give you real insight into the Retail Division and hands-on experience of managing colleagues and projects. All of your placements will involve doing real roles. So you will have plenty of opportunity to demonstrate your capabilities and to deliver for our customers at the same time. You will spend time in at least one customer-facing role, probably in the branch network and ideally as your first placement. You should also have the chance to work with one or more of our three iconic high-street brands. In addition, there will be opportunities for you to experience technical and specialist roles in areas including project and product management, wealth, risk management, digital and marketing.
