This is business on its largest scale. We underwrite, manage and control policies for millions of personal and business customers. Policies worth billions of pounds – both in terms of sales and liabilities. And we trade through 3,000 insurance brokers and partners like Swintons, Aon and Barclays. So this is your opportunity to get involved in big-time business-critical work: understanding risk and setting premiums, managing customers and brokers, conducting business deals and negotiations; designing marketing and communications campaigns and e-commerce for B2B customers; building our broker segmentation model and propositions; and most crucially of all, designing the insurance products of the future.
What you'll do. The two years will fly by. You'll build a broad understanding of the area by taking on a variety of roles and projects in one of three areas of our core Insurance business. Expect challenge after challenge and a wealth of opportunities to prove you're worthy of more and more responsibility.
You’ll build your technical skills whilst also meeting brokers and customers face to face. You’ll get all the training you need to develop your knowledge of insurance products while learning how to assess risk and underwrite. As well as helping you build your client and broker relationship management skills we’ll sponsor you to study for the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) exams. You’ll aim to gain the Advanced Diploma within three years. The CII is the premier professional organisation for those working in the insurance and financial services industry.
The Aviva Insurance Scheme operates across three of our most important general insurance divisions:-Corporate & Speciality Risk (CSR). How do you help big companies manage the risks involved in running their business? The answers come from a CSR team that serves many of the UK’s FTSE 100 names and the top 100 private businesses. Our products range from motor, property and casualty to speciality cover such as construction, legal indemnity and marine. Working here, you'll help us maintain impeccable standards of underwriting, claims, relationship management and operations – and achieve our goal of being a top three player in the market.
Intermediary & Partnerships (I&P). Around 80% of our UK revenue comes via brokers and partners selling our personal and commercial products. So the task of making these products appeal to these companies and their clients is clearly a critical one. There are two main ways to do it: first, by managing our I&P relationships and distribution channels to maximise sales; and second, with ingenious marketing strategies to grow market share. It's exciting, fast-paced work that calls for lots of energy, self-motivation and superb relationship-building skills.
Underwriting, Pricing and Product (UPP). This is where we develop our underwriting strategies and monitor the performance of our business portfolios. It’s also where we build world-leading new insurance solutions to meet customers' needs, at the right price, with all risks accurately factored in. It takes a vast array of expertise to do that, first in core underwriting and pricing skills but also in other areas as varied as digital marketing, telematics, thermal imaging, flood mapping, fraud, government lobbying, cross-border risk assessment, IT innovation, governance, risk and much more besides. Working here will quickly build your leadership, influencing, teamwork and project management skills.
On each path, you'll be involved in live work from the start – so you can get your hands dirty and add value to the business right away. Day-to-day, you'll also get to work with our Senior Leadership Team and other business areas. In other words, you won't have to go far out of your way to build a reputation for excellence.
As if all that wasn't enough, you'll sit the Chartered Insurance Institute's exams (we'll consider supporting you through other relevant qualifications too). And around three months from the end of the Scheme, we'll sit down with you and talk about what kind of permanent role you'd like to take on.
What you'll need. First of all, the flexibility to move to any of our sites. Your two-year placement could take you as far north as Perth, down to London and anywhere in between. At least a 2.1 degree, preferably business-focused and for our CSR scheme you’ll need at least 300 UCAS points or higher from A Levels or equivalent qualifications (excluding General Studies). But we're open to commercially-minded people with any kind of background. What's important to us is your entrepreneurial flair, business acumen, unshakeable commitment, confident organisation and influential personality. That's the kind of potential that will make you one of our leaders in the future.
Our Graduate Scheme
At Aviva, your Graduate Scheme is focused on you. It’s about your strengths and your interests. They're all two-year Schemes – except if you're aiming to be a Chartered Accountant; then, you'll need three years to qualify professionally before taking up a permanent role.
All the Schemes come with responsibility. You'll be working on live projects, handling live cases and protecting real customers' wealth. However, don't be daunted, you'll have all the training you need to thrive.
