In England, you can take a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) course based in a university or college, or a school-based course run by groups of schools that have formed school-centred initial teacher training (SCITT) consortia.
The Cambridge Partnership PGCE Programme includes both centralised and school-based training in at least two of our partnership schools. You will spend a minimum of 120 days training in schools.
You will undertake teaching placements in schools within the consortium. Teachers in the schools act as mentors to organise and monitor your training. You will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of school activities, such as parents' evenings, sports days, plays and concerts.
Our PGCE programme is university validated for the award of a postgraduate teaching qualification together with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). You will be required to attend some lectures at one of our partner universities as part of your school-based course..

Essential Criteria: Degree, Maths, Science and English GCSE grade C or higher
Criteria: 2:2 or above
Must have successfully completed the skills tests before starting the course
The course is an intensive programme of initial teacher education which aims to develop trainees' competence and confidence in the teaching of their chosen subject(s) and in the general professional role of the teacher.
The intention is to provide trainees with a set of insights, perspectives and information upon which they can build as their career develops and to present a stimulating, challenging and enjoyable course.
Throughout the year there is a focus upon subject knowledge and the context of education. The trainees maintain a professional portfolio showing achievement in relation to the Teachers' Standards for QTS.
On this course trainees will develop the following:
- a broad range of practical teaching skills
- appropriate personal qualities and professional attitudes
- an informed understanding of curriculum and teaching methodology
- the capacity to reflect critically on professional practice
- a cogent personal philosophy of education
