The Biology programme at Bromley Schools' Collegiate is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to teach Biology at secondary school level. This course combines theoretical learning with practical teaching experience, helping you foster a passion for science in your students.
You will be introduced to various teaching strategies, including practical lab sessions, that engage students with key biological concepts, such as genetics, ecosystems, and human biology. The programme also focuses on developing your ability to teach scientific inquiry, helping students learn to think critically and solve problems.
Throughout the course, you’ll have two placements in contrasting schools, where you will gradually take on more responsibility, from observing experienced teachers to planning and delivering lessons.
Key Focus Areas:
The course covers the core principles of Biology, including cell biology, ecology, genetics, and evolution. You will also focus on laboratory skills, ensuring that students can conduct experiments safely and analyse scientific data. Critical thinking and problem-solving are central to the programme, as you guide students through scientific investigations and real-world applications of biology.
Your placements will offer a mix of classroom and practical teaching, with the opportunity to help students apply their knowledge in hands-on experiments.
Mentoring and Support:
During your placements, you will be mentored by experienced Biology teachers who will provide regular feedback to support your development. The mentorship ensures you are well-prepared for a teaching career, helping you build confidence in managing classrooms and delivering engaging lessons.
Bursaries & Scholarships:
For eligible candidates, a £26,000 bursary is available, with additional DfE scholarships offering £31,000 for high-calibre applicants. These scholarships also come with benefits such as professional development opportunities and mentoring.
