Job Description

The History programme at Bromley Schools' Collegiate provides you with the tools to teach secondary students about historical events, themes, and the development of societies. You will focus on developing students' skills in source analysis, historical enquiry, and critical thinking. This course includes two placements, allowing you to apply your learning in contrasting school environments.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Teaching historical periods from medieval to modern history
  • Source analysis and developing historical inquiry skills
  • Exploring the role of history in contemporary society
  • Encouraging critical thinking and discussion around historical events

Mentoring and Support:

You will be supported by experienced History teachers, who will offer regular feedback and mentoring throughout your placements.

Bursaries & Scholarships:

  • Bursary: £26,000 for eligible candidates
  • DfE Scholarships: £31,000 for high-calibre applicants

Entry Requirements:

  • Qualifications: A good degree (minimum 2:2) in History or a closely related subject. At least 50% of your undergraduate degree should be in History, or a Grade B in A-Level History.
  • GCSEs: English and Maths (minimum grade C/4). Free equivalency tests are available for candidates who do not meet these qualifications.
  • Personal Qualities: A passion for history and the ability to inspire students to think critically about the past and its impact on the present.

Other Requirements:

  • No prior classroom experience required, but any work with young people is beneficial.
  • Criminal record checks, health screening, and references will be required upon a successful offer.

Fees:

  • QTS only: £8,000
  • QTS with PGCE: £9,200
    (Fees are fixed for September 2025)
