We're on the lookout for a dedicated and visionary Lead Engineer to drive the development of cutting-edge transmission components within our Electric Drive Unit Transmission Sub-system. 


As the Lead Engineer for Transmission Components, your mission is to lead the design, development, testing, and launch of rotating components within our Electric Drive Unit Transmission Sub-system. This critical role ensures the technical excellence and integrity of these components across our in-house Electric Drive Unit Programmes.  


You will collaborate closely with JLR’s suppliers, manufacturing plants, and cross-functional teams to ensure the delivery of quality components on time and within budget. 


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities: 


As the Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for a group of components, including gears, shafts, and differentials. Your key responsibilities will include: 


  • Ownership of core Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and related documents.  

  • Development and management of engineering requirements, design rules, test cases, and procedures. 

  • Collaborating with key suppliers to develop technology roadmaps and resolve issues. 

  • Generating design concepts and component specifications.  

  • Coordinating with CAD engineers for modelling and drawing creation. 

  • Completing Design Review By Failure Mode (DRBFM).  

  • Defining and supporting physical rig tests. 

  • Leading supplier meetings. 

  • Planning and executing design and release activities. 

  • Conducting root cause analysis and issue resolution.  

  • Managing issues within relevant systems. 




  • A strong technical understanding of transmission sub-system/component design and operating principles.  

  • Experience in managing project teams and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and reporting skills.
