The Opportunity


The role is within the Current Manufacturing Engineering function at the Battery Assembly Centre (BAC). The role will focus on the delivery and improvement of test machines, equipment, and process for use by production operations.
The main activity is to improve and sustain both in-process and off-line test equipment including manual, semi and fully automatic test stations.  This activity will be undertaken in conjunction with process engineering teams to ensure a robust and cohesive manufacturing/assembly process.

•    Define capable test and measurement systems.
•    Effective control of characteristics critical to quality.
•    Manage delivery, improvement and installation of equipment in line agreed timing with clearly report status.
•    Support equipment and test sequence revision in recuring manufacturing to agreed deadlines.
•    Adherence to quality standards


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


You will utilise your knowledge to implement, develop, improve and sustain test processes and facilities to deliver the safety, quality, delivery and cost objectives of the BAC.


•    Involved in the planning, developing and implementation of test processes and facilities. 
•    Provide feasibility statements for Product Development designs to suit manufacturing build requirements. 
•    Ensure robust process quality planning including build simulations and FMEA’s 
•    Support of physical builds at workshop, pilot build and Manufacturing Plant locations, raising and managing issues where appropriate. 
•    Support the preparation & issue of “Request for Quotations.”
•    Contribute to the evaluation of quotations, prepare technical & financial recaps. 
•    Support the test process & equipment verification at suppliers and at ‘home’ manufacturing facility. 
•    Support management activities through development and monitoring of timing plans.
•    Ensure adherence to company and departmental operating processes and policies.
•    Manage technical issues, offering guidance to the team and escalating where appropriate.
•    Achieve equipment capability targets of all new & modified facilities, including OPR, MTTR, MTBF, cycle time.
•    Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time.


Key Interactions


•    Ability to work within cross-functional teams and flexibility to support improvement projects at the BAC and any of the Jaguar Land Rover sites.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience




•    Good IT skills and awareness of Process Authoring Tools.
•    Good knowledge of MS Office Applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Project).
•    Knowledge, experience and understanding of in-process test equipment, rig facilities and ability to analyse and interpret performance data output from those facilities.
•    Significant previous experience of facility installation, commissioning and manufacturing operations. 
•    Good understanding of process capability.
•    Ideally, educated to Degree level in Manufacturing Systems or a similar engineering discipline. Candidates with HNC / HND and the relevant experience will be considered.




•    Will have an understanding of Facility Procurement and H&S procedures
•    Facility system validation and handover to Production & Launch teams.
•    A good understanding of engineering including the ability to review engineering drawings.
•    Knowledge of simulation and virtual toolsets e.g. Digital-buck, Process Designer, Process Simulate and CATIA V5.

•    Ability to travel to global locations to support JLR expansion where necessary
