WHAT TO EXPECT
We are looking for an engineer to join us in the Powertrain System Computer Aided Engineering team. Residing within the Powertrain Systems Engineering group, Powertrain Systems CAE provides vehicle level performance and efficiency modelling across all JLR powertrain and vehicle programmes. Covering both conventional and electrified powertrains, virtual analysis is relied upon to inform critical decisions. MATLAB/Simulink-based models are used to deliver functional analyses in support of target setting, concept assessment, component selection, performance, efficiency and driveability attribute delivery, gateway status reporting and aspects of powertrain calibration optimisation.
Key responsibilities will include:
Developing the modelling tools to deliver the engineering for powertrain systems with a specific focus on the development of the MATLAB/Simulink-based tool “CalSim”.
Leading identification of 1D PT Systems CAE tool and/or process enhancement requirements to meet current & future powertrain systems analysis needs
Delivery of 1D PT Systems CAE tool and/or process enhancements, e.g. analysis automation or new features introduction
Delivery of complementary tool and/or process enhancements, e.g. model input / NGD management
Work with CAE delivery engineers to ensure process documentation is maintained
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
As the Powertrain System 1D Tool Developer you will need to hold a relevant formal qualification such as degree or time served apprenticeship. You will need to have knowledge and experience within the automotive powertrain industry with knowledge in powertrain 1D modelling of both conventional and electrified systems.
ESSENTIAL
Good analytical capability and breadth of CAE experience in Matlab/Simulink
Use of programming languages for the purposes of analysis automation
Proven success in complex system model development, validation and correlation
Experience with object-oriented programming in Matlab
Clearly demonstrated desire and interest in CAE model and/or code development or analysis automation
Previous experience and background in solving complex technical ideas and challenges
Able to identify and respond to the strengths and limitations of computer-based modelling and simulation
A strong working knowledge of conventional and electrified powertrain architectures and operating characteristics
