WHAT TO EXPECT

 

Increased levels of electrification bring new challenges in terms of vehicle mass and mass properties, from both a legislative and competitive perspective.  This position will play a key role in mapping, forecasting and influencing Jaguar Land Rovers strategy roadmap to ensure weight optimised, vehicle efficient solutions are championed onto new and existing vehicles, with a focus on Chassis commodities. Leveraging technology, material and manufacturing choices to best deliver weight efficiency onto new and existing programmes.  

 

Key Performance Indicators

 

  • Chassis weight benchmarking and futuring assumptions aligned and agreed with relevant stakeholders

  • Commodity Strategy inputs aligned and agreed with stakeholders for all key Chassis commodities

  • Manage stakeholders and keep the component owners and domain leads engaged

  • Stay abreast of legislative changes that impact vehicle mass with a particular focus on chassis related standards, requirements and legislation

  • Drive impactful results in reducing vehicle mass by passionately driving the philosophy of lightweight design through all of the Jaguar Land Rovers commodity teams

 

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

 

As a Weights Chassis System Matter Expert, you will align weight benchmarking and futuring assumptions at vehicle, CoC and commodity level. You shall manage the competitor intelligence and futuring activities in support of target setting across all new vehicle programmes and architectures. Within this role, you shall be expected to help strategies our continued improvement to the technology, industry and global trends into the weight futuring process. You will support in our Commodity Strategy Review process, ensuring relevant weight focus and aligned targets and benchmark data are met, ensuring strategic alignment between cost, quality, efficiency and other vehicle attributes are achieved.

Within this role, you will have involvement in the creation and delivery of Technology roadmaps to close weight gaps, linking relevant research activities through onto programmes. You shall grow our understanding of key enablers for weight reduction across commodities and attributes, focussing on standards and requirements which currently drive extraneous mass into our vehicles. Working within cross functional teams you will support studies into new technology proposals to ensure the best outcome for vehicle mass and mass properties, working closely with the progression of weight attributes.

 

 

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

 

Essential:

  • In-depth knowledge and technical expertise in Chassis design, technologies and complex systems which significantly impact vehicle mass and vehicle efficiency, including existing and emerging active systems

  • Analytical skills including the ability to conduct complex research into new technologies and manufacturing systems and tools to deliver weight efficient design solutions

  • Ability to effectively explain complex ideas, confidently presenting these to senior stakeholders

  • Degree or relevant equivalent experience preferred

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Agile framework and practices

  • An understanding of vehicle mass and mass properties and the interactions with other attributes

  • Whole vehicle knowledge
