Thursday, June 23, 2022
The University of Law (ULaw) will deliver the Bar Practice Course (BPC) and BPC LLM at Newcastle University from September 2022 as part of its ongoing legal education partnership with the University.
The Bar Standards Board (BSB), which regulates barristers and specialised legal services businesses in England and Wales, have approved ULaw’s application to run the BPC at Newcastle University from September 2022. This expanded offering follows the successful launch of ULaw’s Newcastle campus in Sept 2021 in partnership with Newcastle University.
The addition of the BPC courses at Newcastle University offers ULaw’s professional legal training for aspiring barristers in Newcastle and the North East to allow the new generation to shape the legal landscape across the country.
The nine-month course, which forms the route for students wishing to pursue a career as a barrister, will be delivered by both experienced teaching staff from Leeds and new appointments from practice, who represent a broad and diverse range of practice specialisms.
To help support aspiring barristers commencing the BPC at Newcastle University in September 2022, ULaw have published introductory discounted fees of £12,500 (BPC) and £12,550 (BPC LLM). Students can also benefit from ULaw’s £500 Newcastle Postgraduate Award, subject to meeting the terms and conditions.
Dr Jonathan Galloway, Head of Newcastle Law School, said: “I am delighted to see that our partners at The University of Law have secured Bar Standards Board approval to run a new Bar Practice Course from the Newcastle University campus from September 2022. This expands on an already very successful partnership between our respective Universities for the benefit of our current and future students, as well as other aspiring barristers in the North East and those that want to study here. I know that this new course will be a success and more importantly I know it will provide an excellent educational experience for our next generation of barristers.”
Matt Tomlinson, Dean at ULaw’s Leeds and Newcastle campuses, said: “Our first year in Newcastle has been a true success and I am thrilled that we are now able to extend our offering to those wishing to pursue a career at the Bar. We have been very warmly welcomed by the Newcastle legal market, particularly the local bar circuit, and I am very much looking forward to building these relationships going forward.’
