Exploring Student Attendance and Retention in Higher Education
Wednesday, December 13, 2023
DCQE Staff Development Room (2nd Floor)
This session will address issues and considerations relating to student attendance and retention at the University of Portsmouth.
Post-COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, there has been a global decrease in student attendance at in-person timetabled sessions which can lead to lower student retention long-term. This session will discuss the key factors to consider when looking to improve student attendance on degree programmes, as well as outline the sector themes impacting student engagement. Participants will critically reflect on their students’ behaviours and patterns of engagement to create solutions for local contexts. Finally, the session will hold discussions on how to improve belonging and community on programmes to further support student retention.
